The Margulies Collection at the Warehouse will suspend public visitation hours for the summer season starting April 26th, 2008 and will reopen to the public in early November 2008. Over the summer the collection will undergo major new re- installation of the 45,000 sq. ft. exhibition space. The collection will reopen in November with a new exhibition of Sculpture, Video and Photography.
The exhibition will present Magdalena Abakanowicz’s Hurma, a powerful installation of 250 figures by the renowned Polish sculptress. Poetic genius and metaphoric are terms often used in describing the startling figurative environments of Ms. Abakanowicz. In Hurma, the artist uses natural materials of burlap and resin to create a monumental group of standing headless figures. This exhibition is the culmination of a 20-year relationship with the artist, dating back to the 1980s when the artist first visited Miami and placed her work in the Margulies Collection. The artist will visit Miami again in 2009 to speak about her work.
