Ascaso Gallery presents Spanish Swing

Opening reception: March 22, 2013, 7:00 p.m.
From March 22 through May 11, 2013.

Ascaso Gallery is presenting a unique exhibition put together by Spanish curator Roc Laseca at its Wynwood location. Offering some of the latest visual trends in contemporary arts, the collective integrates pieces by Canarian artists Adrián Alemán, Teresa Arozena, Gonzalo González, Beatriz Lecuona and Óscar Hernández.

The exhibit seeks to examine contemporary ways in which the image, at the vortex of the current flow, behaves as a swing balancing between the polarities of Time, Body and Death. Shown at Galería de Arte Ascaso in Caracas, Venezuela in 2011, El Columpio Español (Spanish Swing) is an example of the gallery’s new programs embracing the most recent contemporary languages. A full-color catalog including an essay signed by the curator accompanies the exhibit.

About The Curator Roc Laseca is a musicologist (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) and semiologist (Helsinki University) with a PhD in Art Theory and Prospective Culture from University of La Laguna, where he held a research position between the years of 2006 and 2011. He is currently a member- elect of the Board of Directors of the ATADEM (Spanish acronym for ‘Tenerife Association of Friends of Music’) Society and the Athenaeum of La Laguna (Tenerife), where he serves as Secretary of the Arts for the period 2011-2013. Laseca has developed curatorial programs for institutions and museums in Europe, Latin America and the United States. He has been guest professor at Lanús University (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Nova University (Lisbon, Portugal) and Miami Dade College (Miami, Florida), among others.
