Miami Book Fair International is a premier program of the Florida Center of the Literary Arts at Miami Dade College.

Over eight days each November, downtown Miami becomes the center of the literary world when Miami Book Fair International welcomes hundreds of thousands of book lovers who attend readings and discussions featuring prize-winning, best-selling and emerging authors from the U.S. and around the world. Founded in 1983 by Miami Dade College and community partners, the Miami Book Fair has been recognized as the nation’s finest literary event of its kind. In 2002, the Fair became part of the Florida Center for the Literary Arts at Miami Dade College, a cultural and academic initiative that promotes the advancement and appreciation of literature.

The Miami Book Fair celebrates literary culture in three ways: the stellar Festival of Authors, the Street Fair, and the International Pavilions Village.

The Evenings With…Reading Series runs from opening Sunday through Friday and features a major literary figure each night. On Thursday, creative writing classes and publishing seminars prepare beginning writers to take their next steps, and the International Pavilions Village opens with a celebration of cultural diversity. On Friday, the Street Fair gets under way, and thousands of pupils from South Florida schools visit to hear authors and participate in Children’s Alley opening festivities.

During Street Fair weekend, more than 250 publishers and booksellers exhibit and sell books in a festive atmosphere. The International Pavilions Village showcases the literature, fine arts and folkloric traditions of many nations. Children’s Alley activities include book-inspired theater and arts-andcrafts, storytelling and readings by children’s book authors from around the world. The Antiquarian Annex showcases rare books, signed first editions, original manuscripts and other collectibles. On Saturday and Sunday the Festival of Authors continues when more than 350 authors present their works, including the Latin American and Spanish authors who participate in the IberoAmerican Authors Program, and the up-and-coming Florida writers who participate in the Write Out Loud Reading Series
