Fans Forever at Miami Dade College’s MDC Museum of Art + Design

Opening reception: September 20, 2012. 5:00 p.m.
From September 20 through November 2, 2012.

Curated by Gustavo Orta, this unique exhibition features fans designed by prominent artists of Cuban descent. Fans Forever re-creates a 1943 exhibition of artist-designed fans auctioned off to raise funds for the Church of Santa María del Rosario, a jewel of Cuban Baroque architecture in Havana, Cuba. Notable artists who participated in the event included Wifredo Lam, René Portocarrero, Mario Carreño, Mariano Rodríguez, Carlos Enríquez, Cundo Bermúdez and Felipe Orlando.

Featuring 50 fans painted by some of the artists who exhibited in the historic occasion, along with fans by artists of later generations, Fans Forever commemorates the beauty freely expressed by Cuban artists in the 1940’s.

This exhibition is free and open to the public. RSVP at [email protected] or 305.237.7700. Parking is available at Miami Dade College, Wolfson Campus Building 7500 NE 2nd Ave. Entrances to the parking garage are on NE 6th and NE 5th streets. Regular museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, Noon to 5:00 p.m.
