Silk and Steel: Sculptures and Other Works by Blair Martin Cahill at SPECTRUM, Miami Art Week

Dec 2 - 6, 2015

California based artist, Blair Martin Cahilll exhibits sculptures and other works that present a completely unique art series, from December 2-6, 2015 at SPECTRUM Miami.

Cahill’s work explores the fragile and impermeable through the juxtaposition of dissimilar materials in her work, such as steel and silk, making it clear that strength should not be judged by perception alone. Her new work, which will début at SPECTRUM Miami, is a concise collection of sculptural embroidery with a bold contemporary edge.

Being shown for the first time at SPECTRUM, See No Evil highlights three Japanese women embroidered on translucent silk in a folding screen of maple and brushed aluminum. The ladies gaze from the screen intently, watching but not passing judgment as they speak, see and hear no evil.

Cahill has exhibited extensively this year in the United States and abroad including Apricot Gallery London, UK; Amsterdam International Art Fair; Governor’s Island Art Fair, New York City; Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, Los Angeles California; and Art San Diego, San Diego California.

Cahill obtained her BFA from California Institute of the Arts and then attended the University of Arts London, Chelsea for her MA in Fine Art, further establishing her individual style of combining elements of color and light. In addition to studying at Art Center College of Design she was awarded the Digital Fabrication Residency which facilitated examination of the confines of tradition, sculpture and technology. She has lectured at the Collage Artists of America and her work is held in private collections internationally.
