Copperbridge Foundation and FUNDarte, in association with Miami-Dade County Auditorium, present 10 Million by the Cuban Theater Company, Argos Teatro, at the On.Stage Black.Box Theater at Miami Dade County Auditorium.
Written and directed by Carlos Celdrán (Winner of the Cuban National Theater Award 2016), 10 Million is a portrayal of a generation, an autobiographical presentation of the controversial history of Cuba during the 1970’s and 80’s. From an unbiased standpoint, the director shares his own life experience as a young boy growing up in the tumultuous aftermath of Fidel Castro’s revolution. In the words of Director, Carlos Celdrán, “10 Million is a weaving of narratives, dialogues, and monologues, where we attempt the riskiest of endeavors in Theater: baring the self in order to connect with others, with everyone. Its writing desperately seeks, through the different voices it articulates, to know what we used to be (as Cubans), what materials were used to make this mix that sustains us.”
10 Million, awarded the Cuban Critic Award 2017, was conceived as a personal diary and took almost a decade to develop into a stage production. Finally, in 2016, not long after Cuba and the United States reestablished diplomatic relations, Argos Teatro premiered 10 Million in Havana. The performance unleashes dormant emotions from its audience. In an environment of apparent openness, Celdrán questions the past, its promises, its people, its political campaigns, and its decisions. He revives a controversial time for the Cuban people and awakens them to the possibilities of the present.
