Skot Olsen. From Aug 2nd through Aug 30th, 2008.Bear and Bird Gallery, located at 4566 N. University Drive in Lauderhill, FL, will showcase over one hundred individual panels from Skot Olsen's adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The opening reception will take place at the gallery on August 2nd, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.
This exhibition will feature hundreds of Skot Olsen’s original, sepia-painted panels from Graphics Classics, illustrating comic writer Rod Lott's adaptation of the original classic by Mary Shelley. Graphics Classics is a series of books (graphic novels) presenting illustrated adaptations of great fiction for contemporary readers, ages 12 to adult. Each volume features the works of the world's greatest authors, illustrated by some of the best artists working today in the fields of comics, illustration and fine arts.
Olsen's illustrations for an adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic tale appears in Volume 15 of the Graphics Classic series. The artist created individual, sepia-toned paintings for each panel of the story. His singular style is visible on each panel. Bear and Bird Boutique+Gallery is located inside of Tate’s Comics, a South Florida pop-culture institution since 1993. The gallery focuses on contemporary representational artworks and aims to create new art collectors with prices accessible to the general public.
