Miami B-Side. From Nov 29th, 2008 through Jan 31st, 2009. Yeelen Art Gallery presents a solo show by artist Jerome Soimaud titled Miami B-Side. This exhibit will display a series of charcoal on canvas dedicated to the Midtown District of Miami. This quarter is maybe the least known of the city because it is one of the most proletarian. Nevertheless, it is the place to discover an extraordinary example of traditional African communication thanks to the hand painted advertisements displayed on all businesses and churches of its Afro-Caribbean community. The viewer is provided with a chronicle of everyday life via figurative imagery.
Yeelen Art Gallery is a newly created space located in Wynwood Art District dedicated to the promotion and expression of African culture through its Diaspora. The gallery provides walls to independent artists whose mission it is to show the place of the African Diaspora in the world.
