From Nov 17th through Nov 23rd, 2008. Discover a world of short film at the 7th Annual Miami Short Film Festival. Over 80 films from 26 countries will show throughout 22 screenings at 6 venues. Panel discussions, filmmaker Q&As, and after-parties are included in the weeklong event. Presented by UM School of Communication, the 7th Annual Miami Short Film Festival will kick off with a Grand Opening and Red Carpet Gala, at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 17th at the University of Miami’s Bill Cosford Cinema, the screening will host a selection of some of the best from every type of film that will be seen over the weeklong festival, with an after-party to celebrate.
Continuing to serve as the source for audiences to discover a world of film, the opening night screening will feature films from Denmark, the Arctic, Iran, the UK and the United States.
Saturday, November 22nd the Awards Night and Closing Party will reveal the best films of the Festival. The winning film from each category will be announced and screened. From the six winning categories only one film will win the $12,000 Best of Festival Grand Prize. The evening will begin at 7:30pm at the Miami Science Museum, with a Closing Party to celebrate the year. The museum offers free parking.
Word! Tuesday Nov. 18th, 2008. 7:30 p.m. Miami Beach Cinematheque. Features a collection of seven imaginative films that all take their inspiration from literature.
Hit the High Notes: Boys and Boys, Girls and Girls, Wednesday, Nov 19th, 2008 8:30 p.m. Tower Theater is the Festival’s first program dedicated to Gay and Lesbian films. The program features seven short films that take a gay boy, lesbian girl, or someone just trying to figure out how they feel about the whole damn sexuality thing, and puts new spins on old dramas, heartbreaks, confusions and out-of-control hormones.
La Noche Latina, Thursday, Nov 20th, 2008. 7:00 p.m. Tower Theater will screen seven of the best Spanish and Latino films in this year’s festival. Drinks served after the screening.
Moviemakers of Miami, Friday, Nov 21st, 2008. 8:30 p.m. Bill Cosford Cinema is one of the most popular screenings of the annual event, featuring four films from south Florida filmmakers.
Just For Kids, Tuesday, Nov 18th 0 Sunday Nov 23rd, Miami Children’s Museum features five films perfect for the kid in all of us, ticket purchase includes free Museum admission.
