Tigertail Productions continues its SpeakOut project with a weeklong residency with nationally recognized Arab-American Spoken Word Poet Andrea Assaf. Scheduled for the week are school and community workshops, a poetry slam for LGBTQ youth and a reading for a general audience.

During her residency week, Andrea Assaf will perform and lead workshops for students at a number of Miami-Dade high schools. These SpeakOut events provide Miami teens the opportunity to learn more about spoken word as a way to express themselves, in an appealing medium that blends poetry, theater and hip hop culture. Said Mary Luft, Tigertail Productions’ Executive Director, "SpeakOut is an astounding transformative project. We very much look forward to bringing Andrea Assaf here for the first time to work with our local teens. She brings a fresh perspective that is sure to fascinate our teens."

Andrea Assaf is a writer, performer, director and cultural organizer. She is the founding Artistic Director of Art2Action Inc., former Artistic Director of New World Theater (2004-09), and Program Associate for Animating Democracy (2001-04). She has a Masters degree in Performance Studies and a BFA in Acting, both from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She is a Board member of Consortium of Asian American Theaters & Artists and Alternate ROOTS, and a member of RAW (Radius of Arab American Writers).
