Artformz. Come Hither

Oct 2 through Oct 30, 2010.

altArtformz is pleased to present the work of artists Natasha Duwin, Donna Haynes, and Mary Larsen. The three artists encourage the public to join them and experience their stories and journeys. Natasha Duwin exhibits sculptural objects and for the Opening Night she presents a special performance that is a surprising and poetic addition to her renowned work exploring the construction of the female identity, using mediums that have long been relegated to the worlds of labor and craft, such as embroidery and textiles. In fantastic multimedia constructions that combine text and preserved imagery, artist Donna Haynes will show new pieces telling visual narratives in her way to preserve and share personal journeys. One of the new members of the gallery, artist Mary Larsen will present a series a paintings based on books and printed text interwoven as part of her mixed media technique creating in her words “ethereal worlds of dreams, not quite recalled”.

Storytelling has always played a role in art, whether through words or images. The three artists featured in “Come Hither” each weave stories through their work in unexpected ways. Whether using weaving, embroidery, needlework, tapestry, quilting, lace, textiles, words, or books each artist transcends the confines of artistic language. They create compelling works expressed as either statements of collective memory; or as interactions between historical baggage and the present; or as objects influenced by the social, cultural and economic revolutions of the twentieth century. These are interconnecting visual stories not to be told but to be experienced; worlds of despair and chaos intertwined with hope and light. The opening reception will take place on October 9th from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. during the Second Saturday Art Walk.
