World Premiere of The Fairy Doll. Mar 7th through 15th, 2009. Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida has been waiting to present this production of a ballet in two acts since 2007. Artistic Director and Choreographer, Vladimir Issaev, has been working on the idea of recreating and reviving this ballet for already two years.
"Fairy Doll", originally "Die Puppenfee" by composer Josef Bayer and first performed in 1888, was one of the most successful productions in the late 19th century. Issaev’s recreation and revival will be a gift to the audiences of South Florida.
"Bayer’s music is so inspiring and beautiful, I could not let his opportunity pass by, says Vladimir Issaev. I fell in love with every variation of this music and the more I researched, the more I felt South Florida’s audiences deserved a ballet production of this kind."
The production counts on creative and imaginative costume designer Jorge Gallardo to make all dancers look like real dolls and the sets will be under the responsibility of painter and artist Elena Bond. Principal dancers Yoshie Oshima, Miho Yoshioka, Andrey Konkin and Brian Ruiz, will have the lead parts that will make its premiere an enjoyable ballet event.
The story is simple but captivating: Fairy Doll is the most beautiful of all dolls in the store of this gentleman who has distinctive dolls from different countries including a doll that blows kisses, a talking doll and many of Harlequins. His young assistant who helps the owner taking care of the dolls is left alone, locked inside the store at the end of the day. As the night falls, the tired young boy sees how the Fairy Doll comes to life, and with her magic, she brings all the toys of the store to life.
