Bhakti Baxter: 2014 Solo Exhibition at Gallery Diet

From April 3, 2014 through May 16, 2014

Gallery Diet is proud to announce a new solo exhibition by Bhakti Baxter. This will be Baxter’s second solo exhibition at Gallery Diet. Continuing the artist’s interest in geometry, 2014 will feature a series of concrete sculptures and ink on mylar drawings that explore volume, surface, space, and composition guided by fundamental geometric theorems. Each of the concrete sculptures offers a unique handling of mathematic axioms such as the Pythagorean theorem and the vesica siscis. In the Project Room, Baxter has prepared a series of drawings which return to his use of ink on mylar and incorporate recent experiences with elementary shapes and proportions. This body of work balances between strict mathematical laws and anarchic immateriality, embracing geometry as a dependable truth with a supernatural counterpart.

Bhakti Baxter was born in 1979 in Miami, where he currently lives and works. Baxter has exhibited widely in the U.S. and internationally. Solo shows include An Intelligible Sphere Whose Center Is Everywhere And Circumference Is Nowhere at the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (2002), Introspective at Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin, Paris (2005), Occupied at Federica Schiavo Gallery, Rome (2010) and Rompelotas at Gallery Diet, Miami (2011). Baxter’s work is housed in the permanent collections of The Pérez Art Museum Miami, The Museum of Contemporary Art (North Miami) and various other private and public institutions. His work has been exhibited at the Bass Museum of Art Miami Beach, Proyectos Ultravioleta (Guatemala City), the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, Bravin Lee Programs, and the Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin.
