Bird Road Art Walk

altOn the third Saturday of each month, artists and galleries of the Bird Road Art District open their doors to host their monthly art walk starting at 7:00 p.m. The Bird Road Art Walk is the best way to explore one of Miami’s oldest art districts.

Located just off of the Palmetto Expressway, between Bird Road (SW 40 Street) and SW 48 Street, visitors can find a thriving community of more than thirty artists’ studios, art galleries, art schools, a live theater group called Akuara Teatro and Speak!, a stage for spoken word that takes place every Friday night.

The Bird Road Art District has been attracting artists since the 1980s. It was originally an industrial area near the railroad tracks, but artists have continuously repurposed many of the warehouses in the area as to create one of Miami’s oldest artists’ communities.

Today, the Bird Road Art District gives home to emerging and established artists’ studios and art galleries featuring works in a variety of medias and disciplines, mixing up with the traditional array of business offices in the area.

During the monthly art walk, visitors have the opportunity to meet some of these artists and visit their studios for a one-on- one encounter, or just step in to one among the many exhibition spaces already operating such as Accent Alternative Art Space, Aperture Studios, Daedalus Art Projects, MANO Fine Art Project Space, Nickel Glass Studios, Nestor Arenas Fine Art, Rafael Consuegra Cuadart Art Gallery, Ray Azcuy Studio and the Ware- house Alternative Space among others.
