Carol Jazzar Contemporary presents "Alibi" by Luis E. Gomez Armenteros

From January 30 through February 26, 2014

This is an opportunity for viewers to become acquainted with Gómez’s approach to videos, which he describes as “emerging from the hackneyed recipe of the film re-make.” Each short video is shot in the vicinity of the artist’s home and yard, preferencing the local and the homemade as an “alibi” for the “lowly desires and dubious pretensions associated with the art world.”

Gómez was born in Havana in 1968. His work has been exhibited at National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana, in the 49 Esposizione Internazionale D´ARTE, Venice Biennale, Italy, in the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, New York, EUA, at the Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst, Aachen, Germany, at the Barbican Center, London, UK, in Art Bassel and Maastricht, in the headquarters of the IFA, Germany and the Havana Biennial event organized by the Center for Contemporary Art Wifredo Lam. He has participated in several Art Residences from institutions which include: the Mattress Factory, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, EUA, the Europe University of Madrid, Arizona State University and  Ohio State University, Ohio, EUA. His work is part of different collections such as the Ludwig Forum, Aachen, Germany, the Arizona State University Art Museum, EUA, the Cincinnati Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati, Ohio, EUA, the NINART, Mexico City, the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana, the Van Reekum Museum Apeldoorn, Holand and the Wakita Museum of Art, Japan.
