Conservations at Vizcaya. Elusive Landscape by Dinorah de Jesús Rodriguez

Oct 7th, 2010. 7:00 p.m.

altExperience an eco-art film event as award-winning Miami-based film and video artist, Dinorah de Jesús Rodriguez, presents Elusive Landscape in Vizcaya’s gardens. This site-specific installation is comprised of multiple hand-crafted 16mm films depicting environmental imagery and projected directly into the landscapes themselves. The work will be accompanied by an original soundtrack by composer Ricardo Lastre.

In a dialogue with nature that is mediated through technology, Elusive Landscape promotes environmental awareness by celebrating Miami’s rich green spaces and natural eco-systems while engaging the city’s diverse audiences in an experience that is at once sensorial, magical, and celebratory. Wine and light refreshments will be available for purchase. Not all areas of the gardens are wheelchair accessible. Rodriguez’s Elusive Landscape is part of Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator’s Off the Wall Experimental Lab Series, an interdisciplinary residency program in which artists present time-based, out-of-the-box works.

Did you know that Vizcaya’s owner, James Deering was an environmentalist? In 1914 he made the then unusual decision to locate Vizcaya’s main house directly on Biscayne Bay, specifically preserving the rockland hammock (native forest) for us today. In addition, when planning and creating Vizcaya’s gardens, he preserved the mangrove shore and was committed to retaining native plants and vegetation. Join us for conversations on conservations! This series of public programs will expose you to Vizcaya’s unique surroundings and inspire you to continue Deering’s preservation efforts and share in his delight of Miami’s subtropical environment.
