Diana Lowenstein Fine Arts opens two new solo exhibitions during the April Wynwood Second Saturday Gallery Walk. On view, in the main gallery Marc Hello: Dreams and Leftovers and Clifton Childree: It Gets Worse in the project room. The opening reception will take place on April 12th from 7:30 – 10:00 p.m.

In Dreams and Leftovers, Marc Hello shows a video projection, drawings and large scale photography all inspired by his gathering of cultural information from the internet, television and newspapers, as well as from the subconscious and metaphysical realm. His video titled “Blind News” is about television news programming gathered from our daily life juxtaposed with beautiful scenes from everyday life. Filmed by the artist, the video includes subtitles inserted and taken from last year’s news stories. The constant contradiction between the information and the imagery is Hello’s way of creating imaginary and artificial dreams. Hello lives in a world of information overload but at the same time finds beauty and joy.

Clifton Childree’s It Gets Worse, with Rat Bastard and Nikki Rollason, is a nightmarish slapstick short film. This 1920s style silent horror film is about an old sea captain troubled by a cursed coffin shaped nickel arcade game which changes his appearance and personality, transforming him into the Mr. Hyde alter ego of his character. “My work comes from inner exploration of childhood fears, nightmares, fever hallucinations and personal history reconstructed under the guise of resurrected and dusted off silent film. Photos from my grandmother’s early years dancing in Vaudeville, a grandfather who dabbled in whaling and told tall tales, and a host of other colorful characters are part of the history pool I fish from. Curious as to what happens in the gaps of the stories, what isn’t caught on film and what isn’t openly discussed, I create my own fill-in scenarios,” Childree states.
