Films at the Library by Art Deco Film Series

Art Deco Icons: Fred and Ginger July 14th, 2007. 11:00 a.m.The Art Deco Film Series presents its program Films at the Library at the Miami Beach Regional Library located at 227 22nd Street in Miami Beach. This time the series examines the most exciting dance pair in movie history: Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Between 1933 and 1949, the artists made ten films together that defined escapist entertainment during the Depression. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers headline Swing Time, the romantic spirit-lifter buoyed by a sublime Jerome Kern/Dorothy Fields score, nimble direction by Academy Award-winner George Stevens, and the leads’ effortless dancing. Swing Time is considered by Croce, Mueller and others to be Astaire’s best dance musical, featuring four dance routines that are each regarded as masterpieces of their kind.
