New World School of the Arts (NWSA) is launching the Florida Waterways Dance Project, a collaborative initiative which celebrates Arts in Education by uniting Florida’s arts institutions in simultaneous site-specific performances inspired by Florida’s unique waterways.
From Miami to the Panhandle and from Tampa to Jacksonville dancers, musicians and visual artists from 24 participating arts schools and dance companies at nine different locations will join together to bring attention to the power and fragility of Florida’s waterways.
All performances throughout the state of Florida are scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, March 5. Miami performance will take place in Jose Marti Park. Admission is free and the public is welcomed

The performance by New World School of the Arts, Miami-Dade College, South Miami Middle School and Conchita Espinosa Academy is directed by Dale Andree. Forty-five dancers will perform to the accompaniment of the NWSA high school choir, singing Cloudburst by Eric Whitacre, under the direction of Albert Clark.
“The goal of this project is to unite the state of Florida through its unique and extensive arts in education programs” explained Dale Andree, dance faculty at New World School of the Arts in downtown Miami who conceived the collaboration earlier this year. “These young artists represent the best of our K-12 and college and university arts programs. By bringing their talents together they hope to bring to the attention of the public the essential need of a healthy society for clean water and inspired art.”
Live streaming will provide audiences around the globe with the unique opportunity to experience Florida Waterways Dance Project by allowing viewers to choose the camera angles of preference for each performance location.
Dance performances from all participating institutions will be linked by common movement themes; however, each choreographer will be creating a work specific to their geographic location, with music ranging from choral music to drum ensembles.

Dale Andree teaches composition in the dance department of New World School of the Arts and Laban Movement Analysis in the theater and dance departments. Andree has choreographed for both departments and also collaborates with Karen Rifas in her visual art installations. With James Oliverio from the University of Florida, Andree created a site-specific work in the Opera House of the Adrian Arsht Center for Merce in Miami. She has also collaborated with UF’s Digital Worlds on various l Internet 2 projects. Dale Andree is a graduate of the Boston Conservatory of Music. She has performed and taught nationally and internationally with her company Mary Street Dance Theatre and under the direction of May O’Donnell, Pearl Lang, Paul Sansardo, Anna Sokolow, Elaine Summers and others. Andree has been on the Board of Directors of the Florida Dance Association and has been actively involved in bringing improvisation and site-specific dance to the Miami community.
New World School of the Arts is conservatory-based, grounded in classical ballet and modern dance technique and offering exposure to newer and World dance forms. Supporting studies are choreography, music, dance history, anatomy and kinesiology, movement analysis and dance production. We are recognized internationally for our students’ exceptionally high performance and artistic levels, distinguished professional faculty, outstanding dance curricula, productive relationship with many international and national ballet and modern dance companies, the multi-cultural nature of our faculty and student body, and excellent facilities provided for dance.
New World School of the Arts was created by the Florida Legislature as a center of excellence in the performing and visual arts, has an educational partnership with Miami Dade County Public Schools, Miami Dade College and the University of Florida.
