Friends of Chamber Music of Miami, Miami’s longest-running chamber music series, will present an evening devoted to the German Romantic composer Robert Schumann, on Tuesday, October 1st at 8:00 p.m., at the Coral Gables Congregational Church.

The celebrated virtuoso pianist Cyprien Katsaris will anchor the exploration of Schumann’s music, which will include one of the world’s most popular piano compositions, “Kinderszenen” (Scenes from Childhood), among other solo piano works.

Mr. Katsaris will be joined in the multi-faceted program by internationally renowned instrumentalists Mikhail Simonyan, violin, Roberto Diaz, viola and William DeRosa, cello. The ensemble will present “Märchenbilder” (Fairy Tale Pictures) for Viola and Piano, Op. 113 and Piano Quartet in E flat major, Op. 47.

In the solo piano portion of the program, Mr. Katsaris also will perform “Blumenstück” (Flower Piece) in D flat, Op. 19 and Arabeske in C major, Op. 18.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of the Romantic era, Schumann (1810-1856) is best known for his compositions for solo piano, which include many of the most enduringly popular works in the basic piano repertoire.

Mr. Katsaris has been a celebrated international touring artist for more than four decades. Recognized for his masterful performances of works from the standard piano repertoire, and especially for his fervent championing of Romantic-era compositions, he has drawn critical acclaim for his solo recitals and performances with dozens of the world’s leading orchestras.
