Master Chorale of South Florida performs Mozart’s Requiem and Te Deum

From April 16th through 18th, 2010.

altThe Master Chorale of South Florida has scheduled Mozart’s Requiem Mass in D minor (K. 626) and Te Deum, two of the most popular pieces of the choral-orchestral repertoire, for their spring concerts.

Performances will be held on Friday, April 16th, at 8:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Miami; on Saturday, April 17th, at 8:00 p.m. at the Kathryn Lindgren Theatre at Boca Raton Community High School in Boca Raton; and on Sunday, April 18th, at 3:00 p.m. in the Amaturo Theatre of Fort Lauderdale’s Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

The singers will be accompanied by the Boca Raton Symphonia under the baton of the Master Chorale’s artistic director and conductor, Joshua Habermann. The soloists for these performances are Susan Williams, soprano; Misty Bermudez, mezzo; Tony Boutté, tenor and Teppei Kono, bass.

Mozart’s Requiem was the composer’s last piece. At the time of his death, only one movement had been finished. The remaining movements were in various stages of completion. In these concerts, the Master Chorale of South Florida will perform the Requiem as completed by Mozart scholar Robert D. Levin. Although it differs from the better-known Süssmyer version, and has one entirely new movement, concertgoers familiar with the Requiem will find all their favorite music intact and as beautiful as it was when composed in 1791.
