Writer Carmen L. Guerrero will be discussing and signing her book Le ville disegni e modelli at Books and Books Coral Gables on Friday, December 18th, 2009 at 8:00 p.m.
Luigi Moretti Le Ville disegni e modelli presents an unexplored area of Italian architect Luigi Moretti’s career, that of the single family villa. Building upon recent exhibits celebrating the life and work of the late architect, the schools of architecture of the University of Miami and of Ascoli–Piceno in Italy led by Professors Carmen Guerrero, Salvatore Santuccio and Nicolo Sardo expose twenty five projects built over a forty year span throughout Italy, North Africa, Kuwait and Cuba. The role of the architect in Italian contemporary society emerges as a consistent theme in the villas as they were often designed for a high profile clientele. Each project is presented through student model and drawing reconstructions of Moretti’s original sketches and partially complete documents.
Carmen L. Guerrero is a practicing architect and Assistant Professor in Practice at the University of Miami School of Architecture. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Miami (1990) and a Master of Architecture degree from Cornell University (1994). Since 2000 she has been involved as faculty and coordinator for the school’s Rome program and has developed a special seminar course on 20th century Italian modernism. Her university sponsored research has contributed to several exhibitions in Italy focusing on the work of modern architects such as Carlo Mollino and Luigi Moretti.
