Miami Bach Society. Ensemble Repast

Oct 9th, 2010. 8:00 p.m.

altOn Saturday, Oct 9th the Miami Bach Society will present the Baroque Ensemble Repast for the second of its annual season performances. This collaboration of three period-instrument virtuosi presents vivid renditions of music of the baroque era. It is comprised of Amelia Roosevelt, baroque violin, John-Mark Rosendaal, viola da gamba and baroque cello and Avi Stein, harpsichord. Founded in New York City during 2003, the group is acclaimed by the New York Times as “a graceful, energetic ensemble.” This will be their first South Florida appearance.

The concert entitled “Bach and Before” will put the great master in context by exploring the generation of German composers which preceded and influenced him: These include Dietrich Buxtehude, Johann Schenk and Philipp Heinrich Erlebach. The performance will be held at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church at 1142 Andalusia Avenue, on the corner of Columbus Boulevard and Coral Way in Coral Gables.

The Miami Bach Society is the area’s principal organization performing and presenting classical music written before 1800. The Bach Society is sponsored in part by the generous donations of the City of Coral Gables, the Miami-Dade Department of Cultural Affairs, the Tourism Development Council and the Board of County Commissioners, the State of Florida, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Federal; Republic of Germany, American Airlines, Classical South Florida, 89.7 F.M., WLRN, the Dunspaugh Dalton Foundation, the Miami Herald, Bell South, Bill Ussery Motors, FPL, the Biltmore Hotel, Waste Management, the John S. and James L.
