On Sunday, November 8th, 2009, at 4:00 p.m. Miami’s premier early music organization presents the celebrated American duo, Asteria, playing vocal and instrumental music from the late mediaeval period.
Called Un Tre Doulx Regard, the program features love songs from Burgundy written in the late 14th and early 15th centuries. Performing with a style called “intimate and deeply communicative …meltingly beautiful” by James Oestreich of the New York Times, tenor and lutenist, Eric Redlinger and soprano, Sylvia Rhyne, will bring their award-winning program to Coral Gables at Teatro Area Stage (formerly the Riviera Theater).
The theme of these secular French chansons was courtly love that mysterious and uniquely medieval literary and cultural tradition that places the lady on the highest possible pedestal and prescribes with absolute precision the social roles for noblemen and noblewomen at court. Redlinger and Rhyne perform these works, many of which they discovered through their own extensive research during a recent sabbatical year in north-eastern France.
The Miami Bach Society is South Florida’s leading organization devoted exclusively to performing and presenting the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and his Baroque composer contemporaries, as well as music written before the seventeenth century in the Western classical tradition. It presents season concerts throughout the year as well as the renowned Tropical Baroque Music Festival of Coral Gables, the first week of March.
