Miami Piano Festival presents its Discovery Series

May 14th through 17th, 2009.  Miami International Piano Festival. Miami MusicThe Miami International Piano Festival's Discovery Series take place this May at the intimate Lincoln Theatre, home of the New World Symphony on Miami Beach. The line up of performances is sure to appeal to piano aficionados and classical music lovers alike.

German pianist Severin Von Eckardstein will open up the series with a performance on Thursday, May 14th at 8:00 p.m. The winner of numerous awards and competitions, Von Eckardstein returns to Miami Beach with a program of Chopin Nocturnes, Scriabin, Grieg, Messiaen and Liszt’s Sonata in B minor.

The following day, American pianist Stephen Beus will make its festival debut at 8:00 p.m. Considered as one of the most promising pianists of his generation, Mr. Beus will delight audiences with a program that include pieces by Bach, Barber, Liszt, Mendelssohn and Medtner.

Chinese young talent Aristo Sham will perform on May 16th at 2:00 p.m. in a matinee concert that is called Prodigies and Masters of Tomorrow. His South Florida debut will include works by Beethoven, Chopin, Gershwin, Poulanc, and Ginastera.

That same day at 8:00 p.m., Hungarian pianist Balacz Szokolay also makes his debut in South Florida after having performed in 30 countries already in his career. The festival welcomes this master pianist who presents a program of Mendelssohn, Schumann and Liszt.

Last but not least, Argentinean pianist and composer Pablo Ziegler will close the Discovery Series with his performance Beyond Tango at 8:00 p.m. This Grammy award-winning artist is collaborating with the festival in a program that includes guest artists, Misha Dacic on piano, Hector del Curto on bandoneon, Alexis Cardenas on violin and an ensemble of local musicians to create a program with arrangements of tangos by Piazzolla and Ziegler.
