El Centro Cultural Español de Miami (CCEMiami) and Miami-Dade County Auditorium present the Miami premiere of Cabeza, a contemporary dance work by The Daniel Abreu Dance Company at Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Mid-Stage Theatre on Friday, October 19 at 8pm.
Winner of the National Dance Award, dancer and choreographer Daniel Abreu creates pieces that are similar to journeys, paintings and images in action. Cabeza contemplates the fantasies and realities of a torrent of strong energy where logic makes no sense. Abreu shows us the speed of his body and what it is capable of expressing, sometimes with an aggressive physicality and others with beautiful, almost mystical movements. Cabeza had its world premiere at Barcelona’s Festival Sâlmon in the Mercat deLes Flors in 2012.
Daniel Abreu is a dancer and choreographer, and a native of the Spanish island of Tenerife, where he began his study of bodily movement and scenic expression. He earned a degree in psychology, and the knowledge he gained helps infuse his choreographies with poetic symbolism. As a performer, Abreu has honed his dance skills through a variety of dance companies, national dance and theatre organizations. As a choreographer, he has created over 50 productions, which have been performed in many countries. His company, formed in 2004, has quickly become one of the most renowned companies on the dance stage. In addition to his own company, he continues to work closely on other projects with creators such as Fattoria Vittadini, the Zagreb Dance Company, the Nomadas Company, Titoyaya Company, and the Zawirowania Theatre, among others. He is also part of the prestigious Modul-dance project, which supports 52 choreographers and at least 400 presentations of their works throughout Europe.
