ÜBERMENSCH (SUPERMAN)
Tom Hormel: The Legend of Bird Mountain, World Premiere
Korngold: Concerto for Violin and Orchestra
Tessa Lark, violin
Strauss: Also sprach Zarathustra

Ubermensch is a passionate and eclectic performance with a wide array of emotional energies that energize and soothe the spirit with a masterful harmony of power, romance, and sensuality. It’s sure to leave you breathless.

Enjoy an exciting world premiere by contemporary composer Tom Hormel. Naumburg Competition winner Tessa Lark joins the Symphony performing Korngold’s lush Violin Concerto on the 1683 “ex-Gingold” Stradivari violin.

“Her combination of a rich, robust sound, even high in the register, technical control and phrasing that makes even the quickest presto seem unrushed, and a sense of surety seasoned with a distinctive personality, makes Lark stand out from America’s talented pack of young virtuosos. This is a special artist.” – Milton Moore – The Day

All topped off with Richard Strauss’ most popular work in 21st century culture, the rumbling giant fanfare: Also sprach Zarathustra. This 1896 orchestral work that sky rocketed him to fame was inspired by Nietzsche’s philosophical novel of the same name and was featured in Stanley Kubrick’s film, “2001: A Space Odyssey“.
