Talking Heads at The Girls’ Club

A New Alternative Space opening October 26th, 2007.

The Girl's Club. Miami ArtistsAfter many months of extensive planning and an inspired makeover of the Girls’ Club building – from nondescript to glamorous – Francie Bishop Good and David Horvitz invite the public to attend the opening of Girls’ Club, South Florida’s newest private foundation and alternative exhibition space on Friday, October 26th, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Aside from unveiling a new cultural landmark in downtown Fort Lauderdale, the inaugural exhibition, Talking Heads, will offer a glimpse into selected works culled from the Good/Horvitz collection of contemporary art. Special events scheduled for that include an interactive live radio project called Talking Head Transmitters, engineered by Miami artists Eugenia Vargas and Odalis Valdivieso.

Located in downtown Fort Lauderdale’s cultural district at 117 NE 2nd Street, around the corner from the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Girls’ Club begins its life as a multi-purpose exhibition, education and event space. Architect Margi Nothard of Glavovic Studio in Fort Lauderdale has overseen a dramatic re-design of the building, incorporating flexible interior features and a translucent façade that can convert the building itself into a massive projection screen for moving image works.

The thematic exhibition Talking Heads is curated jointly by Francie Bishop Good and artist and writer Michelle Weinberg. Developing organically out of the Good/Horvitz collection, the exhibition reveals the passion behind each purchase. Ultimately, the collection expresses the personality of its owners.
