The Moore Space. Miami ArtsThe Moore Space selected Jim Drain and Bert Rodriguez as this year's winners for its 2008 European Residency programs. In January 2008 Jim Drain traveled to Berlin to perform a special Moore Space artist residency at the renowned Berliner Kunstlerprogramm des DAAD. In March, Bert Rodriguez will travel to Paris to present a project room at FRAC Le Plateau, Ile de France in Paris.

In 2006, The Moore Space established a residency program in Miami inviting international artists to spend a period of time living in Miami's Design District. This year, The Moore Space will expand this successful program by adding a reciprocal component whereby Miami artists will have the opportunity to work and live in Europe for a period of time.

To do this, The Moore Space created a nomination and selection process by first appointing a committee consisting of the following art professionals: Claire Breukel, Director, Locust Projects; Mark Coetze, Director of The Rubell Family Collection; Bonnie Clearwater, Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami; Rene Morales, Associate Curator of the Miami Art Museum and Silvia Karman Cubina, Director of The Moore Space. Each nominated a number of artists and met to evaluate and select 8 artists finalists whose portfolios were later sent to Dr. Friedrick Meschede at DAAD and Caroline Bourgeois at le Plateau for a final selection process at each partner organization.

The Moore Space's artist residency program is an experimental platform for artists, allowing them to create new work and establish cultural exchanges with the international art community. Silvia Cubina, the Director of The Moore Space expressed: "This program is essential as it enriches our local arts community by exposing it to different cultures and ideas".
