Public Talk
Doing Violence to Perception: John Heartfield and Political Photomontage. Armed with a lacerating pair of scissors, John Heartfield became German communism's most recognized artist and one of Hitler's greatest enemies. Andres Mario Zervigon, assistant professor of art history at Rutgers University and curator of Agitated Images, examines how Heartfield's photomontage reshaped public perception.

A radical and humorous tribute to John Heartfield, Zygosis is a fusion of modern video techniques.

Photographer Sander pioneered a naturalistic documentary style in 1920s Germany, in a radical departure from the artificiality of prewar studio portraiture.

Bus Tour: the Way We Were: South Florida in the 1950s. Fort Lauderdale is home to exuberant architectural treasures. Architects Anthony Abbate and Jean-Francois Lejeune lead a tour of mid-century hotels and apartment buildings – examples of disappearing regional modernism. Co-presented by Docomomo Florida. RSVP required.

Tours
Consider how an array of historical, cultural, and political trends inspired design of the machine age with a guided exhibition. Friday tours are free.

Public Talk
Dumb as Dirt. Julie Bargmann, founder of D.I.R.T. studio (Design Investigations Reclaiming Terrain) and an internationally recognized innovator in regenerative environmental design, delivers the Judith Arango Design and Architecture Lecture. Selected as one of Time magazine's "100 Innovators – The Next Wave," Bargmann, associate professor of architecture at the University of Virginia, investigates the creative potential of landscapes disturbed by industrial detritus.

Public Talk
The Design-it-Yourself-Revolution. Design is a way of thinking and creating that is accessible to everyone. Ellen Lupton, graphic designer, director of the MFA program in graphic design at Maryland Institute College of Art, and curator of contemporary design at Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, draws from her books, including D.I.Y.: Design It Yourself, to demonstrate ways to incorporate design in everyday life.
