Carmen is a must-see for both opera aficionados and new opera-lovers. This traditional production features two exciting mezzo-sopranos in the lead role—the Spanish María José Montiel and the American Tara Venditti—who are becoming well known worldwide for their interpretations of the famous gypsy.

If you’ve never seen Carmen, you won’t believe how much of the music you know from movies, television, shows, and commercials, but didn’t realize was from Carmen. Opera is an art form that has thrived for almost 500 years. Come see why.

The Season: Witness the fiery temptress Carmen as she uses men for amusement and tosses them aside when bored. Feel the tug on your heartstrings as Eugene Onegin yearns for his lost love. Experience the emotional trauma of poet Reinaldo Arenas and the inner strength that allows him to overcome his tormentors in Before Night Falls. Witness the political intrigue and edge-of-your-seat suspense in Verdi’s A Masked Ball.

You can save up to 25% by ordering a Full Series. Plus, you can set up a payment plan to spread out your payments. You can also order an individual opera, a Duet Series of two operas, or a Trio Series of three operas. The choice is yours.

Music to entertain. Stories to inspire. Florida Grand Opera

CARMEN
No opera is more requested. No opera is so anticipated. And no opera is more beloved than Carmen! Carmen, the fiery gypsy cigarette girl, gets any man she wants–and then gets rid of him when a better one comes along. When she sets her sights on Corporal Don José, he doesn’t stand a chance. He’s smitten and gives up everything–his career, his mother, even the girl he’s going to marry–to be with the sultry siren. But then Carmen meets a famous matador and dumps Don José in a heartbeat. This time, she has finally pushed a man too far!

EUGENE ONEGIN
Arguably Tchaikovsky’s most beloved and most famous opera, this feverishly passionate story unfolds through the beautiful, melodic music and lush orchestration that characterize Tchaikovsky’s work. When the narcissistic young Onegin spurns the affections of a sensitive young girl and turns a pistol on his best friend in a fatal duel, he is left only with regret. Years later, reunited with his now-married former admirer, can he rekindle his chance at true love?

BEFORE NIGHT FALLS
Based on the famous memoir of Cuban poet Reinaldo Arenas, Before Night Falls follows Arenas’ life from childhood poverty in Cuba to his disillusionment with the Cuban Revolution and persecution by the Castro regime as a dissident gay writer. As a political prisoner in Cuba, Arenas is forced to smuggle his manuscripts abroad for publication until his emigration to the United States in the 1980 Mariel boatlift.

A MASKED BALL
Verdi’s A Masked Ball (Un ballo in maschera) is Italian opera at its best. The story tells of a king confronted with conspiracy and assassination attempts, and, ultimately, betrayed by his most trusted friend. The culmination of this political intrigue occurs at a masked ball. It’s a great story with great music and hasn’t graced our stages in over 12 years.
