The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County proudly presents An Evening With Dame Edna! The glittering, effervescent, tirelessly funny Dame Edna Everage will light up the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall with her purple-hued hair and sassy Aussie wit on April 13th and 14th, 2011. The Tony Award-winning dame from Down Under brings her hilarious stage show to Miami for two evenings of glitz, glamour, and her signature gladiolas. An Evening with Dame Edna is part of the inaugural season of the 2010-2011 Adrienne Arsht Center comedy series, Comedy Planet. Self-proclaimed as the most popular, most gifted, most gorgeous housewife, talk show host, anthropologist, spin doctor, and swami ever to emerge from Down Under, the showbiz megastar is now set to take Miami by force.
Dame Edna has performed her glorious brand of comedy from Broadway to Buckingham Palace. Alongside Olivia Newton-John, Kylie Minogue, and Nicole Kidman, she is one of a remarkable succession of stars to emerge from Australia and take the entertainment industry by storm. Dame Edna boasts rave reviews for her work on the stage, in television, and as the author of multiple books including her autobiography, My Glorious Life, which is currently being adapted for stage and screen. Her legendary talk-show series includes “A Life on Mt. Edna,” and “The Dame Edna Experience” and has featured luminary guest stars including Cher, Robin Williams, Roseanne Barr, and Sean Connery.
Created nearly half a century ago as the alter ego of the fearless comedian Barry Humphries, Dame Edna is an award-winning performance persona whose signature stage shows feature biting humor, elaborately engineered detachable gowns, overripe double entendres, and improvised repartee with unsuspecting audience members.
