University of Miami Wynwood Gallery presents Valeria Rocchiccioli

Opening reception: April 13, 2013, 2:00 – 9:00 p.m.
From April 8 through 26, 2013.

Undiscarded by Valeria Rocchiccioli, presented by the Department of Art and Art History, in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami (UM), uses mass-produced discarded plastic objects as her main medium. Rocchiccioli’s sculptures show that ordinary can become extraordinary by weaving plastic bottles, caps and zip ties, creating unpredictable forms. The densely patterned and colorful sculptures draw the inevitable comparison to her native São Paulo’s landscape, large population and diverse society.

Born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, Valeria Rocchiccioli received her BA in Industrial Design from the School of Architecture and Communications, Universidade Mackenzie, São Paulo. She moved to Miami in 2008, later joining UM as a graduate student and teaching assistant, and will receive her MFA in the spring of 2013. Her works are in private collections and has exhibited in many local galleries.
