| U.S. Premiere of The Closest Farthest Away |
From March 11th through 13th, 2010. Miami Light Project, Centro Cultural Español and FUNDarte are presenting The Closest Farthest Away (La Entranable Lejania) at The Byron Carlyle Theatre in Miami Beach. The Closest Farthest Away is a unique multi-media theater piece created by filmmakers, theater artists, and musicians from the U.S. and Cuba.Called “A groundbreaking hybrid work of film and theatre" by American Theater Magazine, the piece incorporates multichannel video installations projected against live performers as a spatial metaphor for bridging the two opposite worlds apart that are Cuba and the U.S., an abstract land where Cuban and Americans coexist. The script was also co-written by playwrights, filmmakers and composers from both countries, and the film production involved the participation of three directors and a bi-national crew of 40. The piece had its world premiere at the Havana Film Festival in December 2009. The Closest Farthest Away was conceived by composer Sage Lewis, whose work has been included in venues such as he Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and holds a MFA from the California Institute of the Arts and a BA from the Oberlin Conservatory in Music Composition. It is directed by Chi-wang Yang, a Los Angeles based theater director and digital media artist committed to performance and interdisciplinary collaborations bringing together the stage, media, and new technologies. He is a recipient of the 2006 Princess Grace Award for Theater Directing. The Closest Farthest Away Byron Carlyle Theatre 500 71st Street Miami Beach, FL 33141 www.ccemiami.org
