Cie Herve Koubi: What the Days Owes to the Nig

Herve Koubi

Sufi-meets-B boy in this highly physical, fluid work for 12 Algerian / West African male dancers that combines capoeira, martial arts, urban and contemporary dance. Dressed in white flowing costumes, they exude grace and masculinity to a musical score that ranges from Sufi song to Bach and Hamza El Din to Kronos Quartet. The result is pure alchemy, or as The Washington Post raved, “a stunning fusion of acrobatics, gymnastics, b-boying, modern dance and ballet.”
