Meet New York Times-bestselling novelist James Grippando

James Grippando is known for writing thrillers with themes pulled from the headlines and, in fact, eerily in front of the headlines. His plots are often based on factual, though closely guarded and even hidden, information.

Now, with his new stand-alone novel Need You Now, he’s done it again.  Its plot focuses on the timely subject of the search for lost billions after the financial meltdown and a massive Ponzi scheme, a la Bernie Madoff, and it reveals powerful and explosive secrets about what the government might have known ahead of time. This is a shocker and a compulsive page-turner.

For the last nine years, Grippando has served as counsel for the law firm led by David Boies – Boies Schiller & Flexner LLP.  In January 2009, the firm filed one of the first class action suits on behalf of Madoff’s victims. So for the past two years he has been a keen observer of the efforts of his firm and others who have fought to recover billions in losses for Madoff’s victims, and therefore has a unique perspective on where the money went. The inspiration for Need You Now also came from many of the “red flags” brought to the attention of regulators, including those described in Harry Markopolos’ book No One Would Listen: A True Financial Thriller.  Markopolos did an early investigation of Madoff’s activities and passed his analysis onto the SEC, but no one paid attention.

James Grippando is the bestselling author of eighteen novels of suspense from HarperCollins including Afraid of the Dark, Money to Burn, Intent to Kill, Born to Run, Last Call, Lying with Strangers, Got the Look, Hear No Evil, and The Pardon, many of them part of his Jack Swyteck series.  He is also the author of a thriller for younger readers, Leapholes (ABA), and numerous short stories, including a 2006 contribution to the acclaimed Thriller collection.  James is now Counsel to Boies, Schiller & Flexner, LLP, one of the nation’s leading law firms, headed by David Boies.  Born and raised outside of Chicago, Grippando lives in Miami with his family where he was a trial lawyer for twelve years.
