In conjunction with the Museum’s current exhibition Max Miller: Final Mourner’s Kaddish – 333 Days in Paintings and in celebration of National Poetry Month, a special reading of Allen Ginsberg’s Kaddish will be presented at the Jewish Museum of Florida. The reading features a variety of local writers, including some from Next@19th’s CHAIku series and members of the Miami Poetry Collective.
Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997), the visionary poet and founding father of the Beat generation, inspired the American counterculture of the second half of the 20th century with groundbreaking poems such as Howl and Kaddish. The foundation of Ginsberg’s work was the notion that one’s individual thoughts and experiences resonated among the masses. Ginsberg used poetry for both personal expression and in his fight for a more interesting and open society.
Following the program at the Museum, please join us at The Betsy – South Beach for a reception with the readers, sponsored by the hotel’s philanthropy, arts and culture program. In homage to Yom Hashoah, you’ll see digital projections of the work Holocaust survivor Mimi Schiff and Israeli photographer Zion Ozieri. Valet and street parking available at the hotel.
