After prodding, Salome agrees to dance when the King promises she can have any wish she wants. Her “Dance of the Seven Veils” turns out to have a bloody price. The opera was so shocking when it first appeared it was banned in Vienna and London. Today, it still sends shivers through the audience with its depiction of the depravity of King Herod’s court.
