Teen Writer's Boot Camp with Author Christina Diaz Gonzalez

From Mar 3 through 31, 2012. 10:00 a.m.

Get that book or short story into shape. Aspiring teen authors will work on improving each of the key elements of character development, plot, setting and dialogue making their stories richer and more layered. All classes will blend discussion, hands-on exercises and critiques of the writer’s current work-in-progress. The final class will deal with the revision process to help the writer’s manuscript become a final draft.

This workshop is designed to foster creativity and self-expression in a supportive atmosphere. There are no grades, no exams, no wrong answers just creative writing. This class is fun and pressure-free, but students will develop thinking and writing skills that will prove valuable in school and beyond. Better writers produce stronger college applications, and an extracurricular writing workshop is an impressive addition to any profile.

Christina Diaz Gonzalez is the author of the award-winning children¹s novel, The Red Umbrella. Her debut novel was selected as a 2010 Best Book For Young Adults by the American Library Association, a 2010 Teacher’s Choice by the International Reading Association, a 2011 Skipping Stone Honor Book, the 2010 Florida Book Award Gold Medal winner and the 2011 Nebraska Book Award Gold Medal winner.
