“Exquisite Writing,” A Surrealist Creative Writing Workshop

February 1, 2014, 2:00 – 4:00 pm

“Exquisite Writing’ is a Surrealist writing workshop designed to unleash participants’ creative processes, and is open to everyone in the community with a love for word-play and a penchant for experimentation,” said Neil de la Flor, Reading Queer Executive Director. “No pretense. No fear. Everyone is welcome, especially those who have never taken a formal creative writing workshop.”

The focus of “Exquisite Writing” will be the generation of new writing using Surrealist techniques to help writers unearth ideas, images, textures and colors to enrich their creative thinking and writing processes. This community workshop will assist writers of all levels in gaining the upper hand in their creative output.

“Exquisite Writing” will use the 2.3-acre Bakehouse campus  as an inspirational platform for a two-hour creative writing workshop co-led by poet and memoirist Maureen Seaton, Reading Queer Executive Director Neil de la Flor and Reading Queer staff.

Maureen Seaton is the author of fifteen poetry collections, both solo and collaborative. Her work has received numerous awards, including the Iowa Poetry Prize, Lambda Literary Award, Society of Midland Authors Award, Eighth Mountain Poetry Prize, the Publishing Triangle’s Audre Lorde Award, an NEA, and the Pushcart; and has appeared in Best American Poetry and in numerous literary journals. Her memoir, Sex Talks to Girls, also garnered a “Lammy.” She teaches poetry at the University of Miami.
