Responsible For: This position assumes a leadership role in the development and implementation of the Center’s educational outreach and fee-based programs and oversees the daily operation of the education department and staff. The Director of Education is a member of the Center’s leadership team and contributes to both the education department and organization-wide planning, goal setting, and policy direction, including expansion of the Center’s education facilities.

Type: Full-time, salaried. $40,000-$55,000 based on qualifications and experience. 40 hours a week. Some flexible scheduling with evening and weekend hours necessary. Health and paid time off benefits available for this position

Reports to: Executive Director

Primary Function:
This position provides the vision, strategic direction, and leadership to ensure all education programs are executed with the highest standard. Programs include classes, after school programs, school partnerships, Distance Learning, student gallery, camps, workshops, group tours, community events and other special projects. Creates integrated curriculum for new and existing programs. Primary to this role is the creation, development and ongoing management of all current and future educational programs and the staff and volunteers within this area.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and oversee the short and long-term vision and correlating plans for the education department. Plan, design, and implement a diverse yearly schedule of educational program offerings. Supervise development of integrated programs and curriculum between and across departments while integrating core academic subjects, STEAM, state and national standards. Maintains quality assurance of Education programs with the goal of enhancing attendance, revenue, and growth. Act as an entrepreneurial catalyst for the organization, exploring and producing ideas for new learning opportunities, community partnerships, and innovative programs. Develop initiatives for educational impact in the community and partner schools, and support initiatives for arts-integrated curriculum. Identify, maintain, and nurture strategic relationships with community organizations, schools, cultural institutions, universities, students, parents, and the general public. Supervise education staff and regularly assess performance and the department’s progress in meeting short-term and long-range objectives. Prepare and maintain Education Department budget in coordination with expected outcomes, committed funding, and projected growth. Monitor and approve purchases of supplies required to implement programs within budget allowance. Establish general operating procedures to ensure the timely, cost effective, and high-quality execution of programs from concept to the final product. Oversees registration for all classes, camps, and special programs. Keep thorough records of registrations and information using Excel, Google Docs, and Google Sheets. Oversee the implementation of integrated lesson plans for programming. Ensure all curriculum is connected to State Standards, Common Core Standards, and/or National Standards as well as integration of STEAM. Oversee recruitment, hiring and supervision of qualified teachers, artists, performers, and assistants. Work with Executive Director and Development staff to provide information, ideas, scheduling, and supplemental materials for funding opportunities. Work collaboratively with Marketing Department to effectively promote, manage, and maintain community awareness and support of programs and priorities. Design educational text necessary for website, programming materials and promotion. Ensure website information and marketing materials are current. Communicate with schools, families, and communities to promote existing and upcoming programs and educational opportunities. Develop and implement annual calendar for educational classes and events. Create and implement other educational opportunities that help support the mission of the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood. Serve as representative for the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood at necessary meetings and public forums. Provide reports regarding the status and accomplishments of programs. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described and as organization needs.

Understanding of and ability to maintain the highest ethical standards, related to organizational responsibilities and public accountability. Possess a compelling vision for how experiential learning programs can spark curiosity and compassion in the arts education domain for people of all ages and backgrounds. An effective administrator who easily manages and leads teams towards excellence in programming and community initiatives. Strategic thinker who fuses qualitative and quantitative metrics while designing learning programs and when conducting evaluations of programs, goals and outcomes.
