Chico y Rita at the Coral Gables Art Cinema

From March 16 through 22, 2012.

This beautiful new animated feature from Oscar-winning director Fernando Trueba (Belle Epoque, Calle 54), Spain’s legendary designer Javier Mariscal and Tono Errando, celebrates the music and culture of Cuba with an epic story of love, passion, and heartbreak. Chico & Rita opens on Friday, March 16 and will play seven days a week.

Chico & Rita magically captures the rhythms and feel of 1950’s Cuba in its wonderfully hand-drawn, artistic style. A gifted songwriter and beautiful singer chase their dreams – and each other – from Havana to New York and Las Vegas and back. Featuring music by the legendary Bebo Valdés, and compositions by masters Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk and Cole Porter, it is also loosely based, in part, on the stories of some real life musicians of the era. Chico & Rita has enchanted audiences across the globe and is now set to conquer Miami with its beautiful evocation of Cuba and its rich musical culture. The New York Times says, “Sexy, sweet and laced with a sadness at once specific to its place and time and accessible to anyone with a breakable heart, Chico & Rita is an animated valentine to Cuba and its music.”
