Job Summary:
 

The part-time Gallery Attendant plays a vital role in Locust Projects’ visitor experience. Reporting directly to the Gallery Manager, the Gallery Attendant serves as the first point of contact at Locust Projects; persons in this position warmly welcome all guests equally and provide visitors with information about the current and upcoming artists and exhibitions and general background about Locust Projects and our mission as well as general knowledge of the surrounding arts organizations and the amenities in our Design District neighborhood. The Gallery Attendant also monitors the safety and security of the exhibition and art on display; provides light administrative support including website updates, calendar notices, filing and archiving, and other office duties; maintains tidiness of the public spaces and restrooms; and helps to promote and conduct sales of memberships, special event tickets, artist editions and other available. An ideal candidate will display initiative, good judgement, responsibility, customer service and social skills, and a passion for contemporary art and artists.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:
 

Must be available to work from 11am to 5pm on Saturdays; responsible for opening and closing of galleriesMust have flexible availability to work 2-3 times per month during evening and weekend programming, including but not limited to special events, fundraisers, exhibition openings, and public programsGreet visitors upon arrival and direct visitors to exhibitions and related materialsBe friendly, open and available to answering questions and provide additional information about exhibitions, artists, the organization, and programmingMonitor exhibitions and art to ensure protection of work/objects Insure print materials are stocked for exhibitions and programsProcess sales of membership, editions, other merchandise, and special event ticketsReport any incidents or potential safety concerns to appropriate staff immediatelyAnswer phones and forward messages to the appropriate partiesAssist with receiving deliveries ​Perform administrative office duties as assigned

Now celebrating twenty years as Miami’s longest running alternative art space, Locust Projects holds a vital place in Miami’s arts eco-system, commissioning the production of experimental, site-specific installations and serving as an artist-centric resource and incubator of ideas and critical conversations on contemporary art. During two-to-six week residencies, local, national and international, emerging, established and mid-career artists are given the space and resources to create ambitious new work that pushes their practice without concern for commercial or institutional limitations. Since 1998 Locust Projects has commissioned over 150 site-specific projects by more than 350 artists. Along with supporting artists’ professional development and artistic experimentation, we also support the community through educational initiatives, free public lectures on contemporary art and curatorial practice, high school and MFA-level summer art intensives, and local regranting supporting projects in non-institutional venues in underserved areas across Miami-Dade County.
