Miami Beach Cinematheque presents Making Sh*t Up

An Evening with artist Bert Rodriguez. Jun 2, 2011. 8:00 p.m.

When all you are and all you do becomes your art, what do you do next? The story of a rising young artist making his way within and well beyond the borders of his hometown, this high-energy narrative takes you behind the scenes in the timeline of a hard-earned career upswing for successful young conceptualist Bert Rodriguez.

From his “Clearance Sale” of a lifetime’s work at ArtLA, to weeks of therapy at New Yorkʼs famed Whitney Biennial, to a near-death head injury and the new mindset and work style that followed in shows from Miami to Seattle. Piercing the mainstream conundrum, “But is that art?” the film infuses incisive and spirited opinion from some of the world’s most influential and important artists and art professionals; their frank commentary narrates the action as it challenges the notions of fame, the value of art objects, and the work and destiny of Bert Rodriguez in particular.

Starring Bert Rodriguez, and featuring Marina Abramovic, Vito Acconci, Maria José Arjona, Richard Arregui, Amy Cappellazzo, Kelly Crow, Silvia Karman Cubiña, Susan Dominus, Stacey Goergen, Marion Hanks, Susan Banks, Steven Henry Madoff, Dr. Scot McAfee, Manny Prieres, Andrew Reed, Doreen Remen, Yvonne Force Villareal, Jerry Saltz, Michael & Lisa Schweitzer, Nancy Seltzer, Fred Snitzer.
