Miami Lyric Opera presents Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi

altThe Miami Lyric Opera presents three evenings of concerts featuring a classic: Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi. Rigoletto is an opera in four acts (original written in three) by Giuseppe Verdi with libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, based on the play Le Roi s’amuse by Victor Hugo. It was first performed at La Fenice in Venice on March 11, 1851. It is considered to be one of the principal operatic masterpieces of Verdi’s middle-to-late career.

The Story is set in Mantua, Italy at the end of the 16th Century. The Duke, a celebrated ladies man, seduces Gilda, the beautiful daughter of his sharp-tongued jester, Rigoletto. Vowing revenge, her furious father hires Sparafucile, a notorious assassin, to avenge his family’s honor – a decision that ends in tragedy.

The cast includes Nelson Martinez, Gina Galati, Susana Diaz, Aurelio Dominguez, Lissette Jimenez, Jesse Vargas, Armando Naranjo, Ismael Gonzalez, Matthew Caines and other fine artists.
