Pedals, Pipes and Pictures at Trinity Cathedral

August 29th, 2010. 6:00 p.m.

altMusical Murals is a concert of music inspired by art that will feature an arrangement of Mussorgsky’s popular work “Pictures at an Exhibition” and an original arrangement of Respighi’s orchestral work “Trittico Botticelliano. The concert will be performed on the 3,600 pipes of one of South Florida’s oldest and largest organs in the beautiful and resonant setting of Trinity Cathedral in downtown Miami. Pictures will be displayed on a screen at the front of the cathedral while the musical murals are being performed.

Organist Matthew Steynor, director of music at Trinity Cathedral, is a prolific recitalist in the South Florida area. His recent performances of orchestral works include Holst’s “Planets” Suite and works by Gershwin and Villa-Lobos. The Skinner organ at Trinity Cathedral was built in 1926 at the same time as the church. Proceeds from “Musical Murals” will aid with ongoing preservation of this historic instrument.
