Siempre Flamenco presents FlamenJazz Jam

South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center. March 16 through 18, 2012.

Siempre Flamenco’s guitarist Paco Fonta teams up with jazz vibraphonist Richard Sprince for an exciting journey of musical dialogue, exploring connections between the two musical genres. The heat and passion of flamenco and the cool licks of jazz both share improvisation as an important element in their musical traditions, thus the concept of a FlamennJazz Jam.

The show will include Flamenco dancing by acclaimed artists Celia Fonta and Paola Escobar. The program will feature original compositions by both Paco Fonta and Richard Sprince as well as an arrangement of the classic Jazz composition Crystal Silence by Chick Corea, set to flamenco rhythm. The traditional flamenco dances, Taranto and Alegrias, will be flavored with the mesmerizing sound of the vibraphone. Drums played by Romulo Bernal will round out this unique Flamenco Jazz experience.

Performances will take place in the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center’s intimate Black Box Theater on Friday, March 16 at 8:30 p.m., Saturday, March 17 at 8:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 18 at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. For ticket information call 786.573.5300 or visit www.smdcac.org.

Through SMDCAC, Siempre Flamenco will conduct outreach to the south Miami-Dade community including a special class for Girl Scout Troop 8 on March 10 at 11:30am at the Center. Other outreach events are being scheduled.
