SMDCAC and University of Miami present Tsunami

Sep 12 - Oct 3, 2015

Proudly presenting the world premiere of Tsunami, a poignant docudrama, based on transformative stories of Japan. This new play introduces us to the resilient people behind the front-page horrors of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami disaster that occurred in 2011. The actors from different cultures and ethnic backgrounds find a common theatrical language to retell the stories gathered from interviews conducted by Michiko Kitayama and Nilo Cruz in Japan.

The collection of narratives in this theatre piece is meant to serve as a counterpoise to the sensationalism of media. If the tsunami disaster in Japan caused trauma, it has also tempered values, clarified motives, and created a new logo of hope and strength not only for Japan, but also for the rest of the world. Tsunami is written by Nilo Cruz and Michiko Kitayama and is directed by Nilo Cruz.
