The Cleveland Orchestra returns to Miami March 2 and 3

Soprano Dawn Upshaw, one of the most significant and dramatically moving singers on the stage today, joins Conductor Nicola Luisotti for the second program of The Cleveland Orchestra Miami season on Friday, March 2 and Saturday, March 3, co-presented with the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County and the Musical Arts Association of Miami. Performances are held in the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall at the Adrienne Arsht Center at 8:00 p.m.

The Cleveland Orchestra programs include excerpts from Verdi’s Aida, Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5, and the Miami premiere of popular Argentinean composer Osvaldo Golijov’s Three Songs for Soprano and Orchestra, with Ms. Upshaw as soloist. Prelude concerts featuring members of the Orchestra performing chamber music are free and open to all concert ticket holders at 7:00 p.m., also in Knight Concert Hall.

The Cleveland Orchestra launched its landmark Miami Residency project in January 2007 in the new Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County.  Central to this achievement was the creation of the Musical Arts Association of Miami (MAAM), to support The Cleveland Orchestra Miami, with a goal of fostering a culture of passionate and dedicated concert going among the broadest constituency.
