Tigertail Productions presents Bill Frisell in Concert

April 16, 2011. 8:30 p.m.

altOne of the leading guitarists in jazz since the late ’80s, Bill Frisell’s eclectic music touches on progressive folk, classical music, country music, noise and more. Bill Frisell has collaborated with artists as diverse as Elvis Costello, Bono, T-Bone Burnett, Paul Simon, McCoy Tyner, Ornette Coleman, Brian Eno, Ry Cooder and many more – a testament to his virtuosity as a guitarist, bandleader and composer. He is a Grammy winner and two-time nominee including a 2009 nomination for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, a 9-time Best Guitarist winner in the Downbeat Critics Poll (including 2010), three-time Downbeat Readers Poll winner for Best Guitarist, and the Reigning Jazz Awards Guitarist of the Year (2008 & 2009). This work has established Frisell as one of the most sought-after guitar voices in contemporary music. The breadth of such performing and recording situations is a testament not only to his singular guitar conception, but his musical versatility as well. This, however, is old news by now. In recent years, it is Frisell’s role as composer and bandleader which has garnered him increasing prominence.

After 22 years of a fruitful relationship with Nonesuch records dating from the late ’80’s, Frisell has embarked on an exciting new chapter with the Savoy Label Group. His first album for the label, Beautiful Dreamers, features Eyvind Kang on viola and Rudy Royston on drums. The material consists of a number of Frisell originals plus interpretations of such classic songs as “It’s Nobody’s Fault But Mine”, “Tea for Two”, “Goin’ Out of My Head”, “Keep on the Sunnyside” and a rousing rendition of Benny Goodman’s “Benny’s Bugle”.

This one-night only concert is presented by the non-profit Tigertail Productions, a South Florida leader in innovative cultural work. “Bill Frisell is one of those artists that Tigertail loves to present. His original sound is his calling card. It is a joy to follow his musical journey,” said Tigertail Executive Director Mary Luft.
